vSpring Capital Releases Its List of the 2011 Top 100 Venture Entrepreneurs

SALT LAKE CITY May 18, 2011-- vSpring Capital announced today the 2011 class of the vSpring Capital Top 100 Venture Entrepreneurs, also known as the v100.

Since its inception in 2004, the v100 continues to prove to be a valuable tool in recognizing the next wave of emerging entrepreneurs and companies. The v100 was created by vSpring Capital as a method to identify and recognize entrepreneurs with Utah ties that are most likely to experience successful venture returns. Members of the v100 become part of an ongoing community of entrepreneurs that fosters collaboration and provides advantages in building and growing companies.

“As in previous years, we were able to compile a very unique and compelling list of nominees in which a large portion of the inductees are young emerging entrepreneurs which is indicative of the bright future that this state has to offer,” said Jon Walker, manager of marketing and investor relations at vSpring Capital.

Each year, vSpring asks members of the Utah business and academic community to nominate individuals who are most likely to lead a successful startup venture in the next five to seven years in the IT (information technology) or biotech industries.  Those individuals who are nominated are then asked to vote amongst themselves based on the same criteria.  Nominees who garner the most votes from their peers in this second step of the annual voting process are then elected into the v100 and become members of this ongoing community of entrepreneurial leaders.

“While vSpring created the v100, we aren’t the ones selecting the winners.  Historically, the list of winners and the companies they work for have been a strong indication of successful companies and entrepreneurs that Utah should be tracking,” stated David Anderson, administrative partner at vSpring Capital.  “The validation from these results means so much more when you are selected by your peers and not by an organization.”

Joel Peterson, the founder of Peterson Partners and teacher at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business, will address the v100 community at an exclusive luncheon on Wednesday June 22, 2011 at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.

“Joel Peterson is the perfect keynote speaker for 2011,” Walker stated.  “His lifelong achievement in business, entrepreneurship and academia is very appropriate for the v100 community.”

“Entrepreneurship coupled with premier talent from all demographics within this state is helping Utah gain national attention.  While individuals can enjoy a high quality of life, they can also stay active through creating and adding value in a healthy and growing entrepreneurial eco system where their skills are needed,” said Scott Petty, managing partner at vSpring Capital.  “I firmly believe Utah will continue to grow and be recognized for the companies and individuals that are calling Utah home.”
